A number of new medications are under study to treat onychomycosis, some are topical, others are oral. We usually have at least one onychomychosis study enrolling at any given time. It has been our experience that patients will often have difficulty obtaining adequate therapy for onychomycosis typically due to costs and poor third-party reimbursement. Participation in a clinical trial can often be a way for such patients to receive medication. Research trials have some restrictions on enrollment but they typically do not require significant pain or other proven degradations in quality of life in order to enter.
